Spicy Fried Noodle (Mee Goreng Pedas)

As much as I like steak and wings, I cant have them everyday. Or even every other day. Once a week is fine and after that Id be craving for some good asian dishes. When I want something asian-y and spicy, there are 2 options for me. It will be either fried rice (nasi goreng) or fried noodle (mee goreng) and last night I opted for fried noodle.

A
A bag of mee pancit (you can get these from the asian supermarket) or other kind of noodle
Beef - thinly sliced
Chicken - thinly sliced
Frozen mixed veggies
4 eggs
1 onion, sliced
4 tbsp cooking oil

B
4 shallots
2 garlic
5-6 thai chili (or more if you like it really hot) ;)

C
1 tbsp dark soy sauce
1 tbsp sweet soy sauce
3 tbsp lime juice
salt & sugar to taste

1. Pound ingredients B in mortar and pestle and boil the noodle according to the packet. Set aside.

2. In a wok, heat oil on medium high and sauteed the pounded ingredients until fragrant.

3. Add chicken, meat and frozen veggies and stir. 1 min.

4. Break the eggs, stir. 1 min.

5. Add in the noodle and sliced onion, stir.

6. Add ingredients C and continue stirring. Taste and add any ingredients according to your liking.

I too like mee goreng pedas. But how do you keep the noise and the vibration down when you pound your onion, garlic and chillies?
And what is mee pancit?

Your mee goreng nampak sedap betul. Boleh mintak sikit tak? Yeah.... I was wondering the same thing, what is mee pancit? Tumpang lalu yea, Farina.

Kak Zue, to keep the noise down .... put the mortar & pestle on folded dish towel. My mom used to make me do that every time we pounding chillies for sambal belacan.

That is what I do :) I get bored with salads and bbq veeeery quickly. I need something spicy at least once a week. If I am lazy I just open up a packet of Indo Mee ( rendang flavour is the best)and I am good to go.

Zue & Yatie, i think mee pancit is mee kuning. its written as mee pancit on the plastic wrap itself. yup, i also put cloth or gloves under the mortar to reduce the noice. ;)

Shreya, im sure u would. u can also use shrimp/seafood instead of meat.

Maya, when im super lazy esp in the morning, id settle for maggi! maggi for breakfast just yummy! lol.

I am the same Farina. I must have my Asian dish fix after 2 or 3 days of western food. You mee goreng look soooooo good. Now you make me crave for it. I want to cook some today tapi tak ada mee kuning :(

Anis, i yg selalu hancur is my meehoon or keuw teoy. haha.

Lore, give this a try. if u dont have fresh thai chili, u can always opt for sambal oelek. ;)

Tigerfish, come here and il make u some. ;)

Gert, kalau takde mee kuning, buat mee hoon goreng pun best jugak kan?

Hi

I came over from Sri. Mee goreng - another dish that reminds me of home although I've yet to attempt it. Maybe it's time I did.

Rita, ;)

Petite fleur, thanks for visiting. do come back ok? i find making mee goreng is easier than meehoon goreng. THAT, i have yet to master. lol.
