Malay-styled Omelette / Telur Dadar Recipe

Telur is egg in Malay word. And I love eggs. Fried egg. Hard boiled egg. Soft boiled egg. Fried hard boiled egg. You name it and I would probably have had it or would have it. And when I dont know what to cook, this is what I would make. Telur dadar or malay styled omelette is something like omelette without the milk or cheese and instead we added onion, chili, salt and pepper. Some people would add veggies but I like mine with only onion and chili.

Telur Dadar
serves 1-2

2 eggs
half red chili, sliced
half onion, thinly sliced
salt and pepper
1 tbsp cooking oil

1. Beat the eggs in a bowl. Add the rest of the ingredients except oil and continue beating.

2. Heat oil in a wok or small shallow frying pan on low heat.

3. Add the eggs into the wok/pan and let it cook slowly. About 2 minutes.

4. When you see the sides of the egg getting brownish, flip it upside down and continue cooking for another minute or two.

Enjoy with a plate of warm white rice. You can also put a little bit of sweet chili sauce or sweet soy sauce on top. That is how I would normally eat my telur dadar.

I love telur dadar, never missed ordering them whenever I eat out at Malay Tomyam stalls. :)

I love it that they use a lot of cooking oil.

I love telur dadar too. Masa I muda muda dulu, my mom always serves us eggs all the time.... half cook egg in the morning for breakfast is a must. She sometimes cook fried eggs or hard boil eggs for masak lemak, sambal tumis, kurma, curry, etc. She's very creative and well known tukang masak kat kampung, sadly non of her 5 daughters got tangan like hers.

RM, you like it with more oil? Im always afraid to use extra oil when i make this for other ppl in case they dont like it too oily.

Telur dadar is my favorite. I like my telur dadar simple like yours, without cheese or milk. Eat it with fried rice is also great.

I share your love for eggs so your omlette is right up my alley! Great idea to put chili in it, I only used to put bell pepper.

I love eggs as well that I can have it everyday. It's something everyone got at home and everyone can handle doesn't matter you can cook or not
