Cheesy Garlic Biscuits

cheese garlic biscuitIs it just me or it is hard to get back to posting after a very long weekend? Well, Thanksgiving was good. Our friends, Shirley and Kevin came to celebrate it with us. We did not have any turkey this year but that does not mean we did not have lots of food. We had hot roast beef sandwiches, Cheesy Garlic Biscuits, sushi, potato salad, coleslaw, yeemee noodles and even a few vodka shots. ;)

I don't really fancy biscuits but Michael loves them especially the ones at Red Lobster. He could just eat those Cheesy Garlic Biscuits and nothing else and he is a happy camper. Very easy. So for Thanksgiving, I decided to make some. I found the recipe at Joyfulabode.com and decided to give it a try. I'm glad everybody liked them. It is easy to make and goes well with the hot roast beef sandwiches.

****Chef's note: I made these again last night but using Jiffy's Baking Mix. The result is almost the same. So if you can't find Biscuit Mix, you can always use baking mix or maybe even pancake mix. Good luck!

1 pack buttermilk biscuit mix (I used Bisquick, about 1 1/2cups)
1 1/2cups shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup milk
2 tbsp butter
1 tbsp oregano (you can omit or use less)
3/4 tsp garlic salt

1. Preheat oven to 400F. Spray cooking sheet with non-stick spray.

2. Put biscuit mix, cheese and milk in a bowl and mix well to form a sticky dough.

3. Using spoon, drop lumps of dough onto cookie sheets 1.5in apart. Bake for 10min.

4. In a bowl, melt butter and mix with oregano and garlic salt.

5. When the timer goes off, take them out and brush with butter mixture and bake 5min at 400F and another 5-6min at 350F.

6. Transfer into a plate and serves immediately.

I love biscuits from red lobster. I usually load up the biscuits and then am too full to eat rest of the meal. I know what you mean about getting back to blogging after holidays...try after 6 weeks of being away. I am still in la la land. By the way, you dah dapat the package ke?

I too love the biscuit at Red Lobster. Never attempt to make it myself. This recipe look pretty simple. I might try this if Carlos want some. Thanks for sharing the recipe.

I'm a big fan of cheese and garlic. I don't mind to gain weight, can you send some over PLEASE ? So hungry now

Unknown said...

I made these the other night and they are fantastic!

Just made these and the came out pretty good. The only thing I would change is less Oregano. I LOVE Oregano, but this was too much. I would 1/2 the amount. I also had to double the butter to have enough for all the biscuits.

Anonymous said...

Just made these, and they were decadent...so much cheese! I thought maybe too much, but my husband said no way. I posted about them on my blog oatsandbeansandbabygrow.com. I used parsley instead of oregano...the oregano just didn't seem right to me. I also used salted butter and garlic powder instead of salt. Yummy! Better than Red Lobster (esp since I hate Red Lobster besides the biscuits!)

Sandi said...

Making these tonight! Cant wait! Wish there was a printable recipe:)

Salt N Turmeric said...

Sandi, thank you for visiting my blog. Enjoy your dinner tonight! Sorry about no printable version tho. :)

I also use parsley in mine as well. These go with every kind of soup and salads. I love em even as a late night snack with a drizzle of honey.

I am going to make these tonight! Hope they come out yummy!!!

Mama Boz said...

i wonder, was the 1 TABLEspoon of *oregano a typo? to me that seemed like a lot. was it meant to be 1 TEAspoon? next time i will cut down on *oregano (*i didn't have so used italian seasoning)

Salt N Turmeric said...

MamaBoz, yes I did use 1TABLEspoon oregano for my cheesy garlic biscuits because I like oregano. You (and everybody else) can, of course use less or replace it with something else. It doesn't affect the baking process so use whatever you like and however much you like. :)

Natsta said...

These were absolutely perfect, even better than Red Lobster because the cheese browned just slightly on the bottom... perfect doneness and flavor! Way to break this one down.

Ninlea said...

The bottom burns, anyway to avoid this?

Salt N Turmeric said...

Ninlea, sorry that you're having that problem. I have made these numerous times and never had burn bottom problem. Maybe next time you can reduce the temperature and/or shortened the baking time? Hope that helps!

Anonymous said...

Sorry, but these were nothing like Red Lobster's. WAY too much cheese and the garlic salt in the butter just crystallized on the biscuit, giving me a mouthful of salty flavor. Very disappointed...looking elsewhere for a better recipe.

Salt N Turmeric said...

Writer Mags, sorry you didn't like the result of your biscuits. Maybe you can reduce the amount of ingredients that you find too much when you make them next time? I usually personalised the recipes that I find to suit my own personal taste. Good luck and if you find another recipe that you like, maybe you can share them with me too.

Dave and Whitney said...

OH, Oregano!! I added dried parsley to my attempts. Which is also nice, and would make a good addition to the flavour profile while helping a little bit with the garlic aftereffects. Thanks for posting, lo so many years ago!

Salt N Turmeric said...

Glad you get to enjoy them Dave and Whitney. :)

Not Supermom said...

I just made these, and I'm trying hard not to burn my mouth while eating them straight out of the oven.

Used parsley instead of oregano (as that's what I've got fresh out in the garden)... but my heavens, does it matter? I think not. These are SO delish.

Gonna try 'em with mozzarella and basil, because I can.

Salt N Turmeric said...

Not Supermom (funny!lol), nope it does not matter as long as you like it. Mozzarella and basil sounds yumm too. I think that would make them dip-able! :)

LiveLoveNYC said...

yuM! these would be great muffins too! wow - i want one now :) thanks for the recipe!!

Adventures in Cooking said...

These came out really well, thank you! Everyone loved them! I would use less oregano next time. Perhaps 1/4-1/2 tsp. But very good and will make again!

Salt N Turmeric said...

Thank you LiveLove NYC and Adventures in Cooking.

The Lucky One said...

I made these last night and they were a huge hit! My boyfriend told me these were actually better than Red Lobster's because you can take the cheese and the garlic. I'll definitely be making these again!

Salt N Turmeric said...

Glad you liked it The Lucky One!

privatethoughts said...

Mine didn't turn out horrible, but had I left out the extra 5mins at 350, these would have been wonderful. They got a little crispy. Next time I'll just leave that part out. Great recipe!

Unknown said...

How mane buscuits does this recipe make?

Anonymous said...

Hi, how to make this without the bisquick? It's not available here where I live :(

Salt N Turmeric said...

Nichole, as mentioned int he recipe, it makes 12 biscuits.

Syifani, you can substitute with pancake mix. :)

kym's kitchen said...

These are just "Baking POWDER biscuits" No Bisquick, just look up any simple Baking Powder biscuit recipe and sub. That's what I use anyway. Super easy, just All Purpose flour, baking powder, salt some shortening or butter (Butter flavored Crisco works much better than butter), salt and milk. I half and half the regular salt with garlic salt IN the biscuit sometimes. I also melt real butter, parsley flakes and garlic salt to baste the biscuits with. I brush the butter mixture over them before the oven , once during baking and last, after they come out. These are great for dinner, snack, breakfast with egg, cheese, bacon /ham sausage.

Unknown said...

Fanfrickintastic!!!! I used a biscuit recipe rather than bisquick... by far the best biscuits I have ever eaten in my life!! I love you for posting this recipe!

Unknown said...

Okay, so this is the "basic" recipe, but I've made these several times and I seriously know the most delicious version. The only thing you need to do different is to add some seasonings to the dough. Especially some Old Bay seasoning! Also add the Old bay to seasoning that goes on top. Trust me, it's sooooo much tastier!

Salt N Turmeric said...

TQ kym's kitchen for visiting.

Dee Jones, I love that you love it! :)

Bethany, thank you for your suggestion!

Unknown said...

Made these exactly as directed (left the dough sitting for 30 mins though, because I had chicken in the oven). They turned out delicious! Just like Red Lobster! I used to go just for the biscuits, but now that I can make it on my own, there's no reason to go ever again :)

Followed recipe, but also added garlic to the dough..... Family loved them.!
