The Best Chili Sauce

Everybody have their own favourite brand. Be it the burger patties, frozen roti pratha, pastry shells or even canned coconut milk. I guess the same goes with me. Among other things that I am very particular with is chili sauce, not very common here in the US as people would usually go with kechup. I used to eat everything with chili sauce. When I get some KFC, I would use so much chili sauce that my colleague would tease me and say to me, "Farina, do eat some chicken with your chili sauce".

As you can see from the pictures, my personal favourite brand is Lingham Chili Sauce. When we first moved to California, I would get my supply from the World Market but then they discontinued bringing them in and I was left very very very sad. I was told that the closest I would get to the taste is the Mae Ploy chili sauce. Well, to me it is pretty good but it now Lingham Chili Sauce and I was not the only one thinking that way. Michael is not the type who would eat sweet chili sauce but he loves eating Cekodok with Lingham Chili Sauce and Lingham Chili Sauce only. When we ran out of supply and had to eat with Mae Ploy, he complained about the texture and the taste. Can you believe that? He is the type who eats so that he is not hungry while I, eat because the food is good.

Recently we went to Ranch 99 store in Irvine and saw them on the shelves! I was ecstatic beyond believe. Lingham has a few varieties of the chili sauce but we both like the regular hot sauce. It is a sweet chili sauce but not too sweet that you can only taste the sugar. So the next time you visit your asian store, do see if they carry Lingham and if they do, get a bottle and give it a try.

I like this brand as well. But since now they have many other flavours of chillie sauce, my other favourite one will be the Thai Sweet Chillie... yummy!

I like Ligham chili sauce but had to mix it with ketchup so it doesn't taste too sweet.:-)

Farina, yes like you I love this brand. I always have a bottle in my fridge. It is great with any foods on the table. Steak or burger or hot dog turn great with this chilly sauce. Even the mee goreng became different with this sauce.

Have a nice day.

This is my fave too. Even my hubby, who doesnt eat much Asian food, LOVES this chilli sauce. My grandma introduced it to me about 10 years ago and I was hooked eversince. I used to bring about 10 bottles of Lingam from Singapore but now, I'm pleased that one of the Asian stores here carry it.

I'll be sure to look for this sauce when I travel overseas... I love spicy foods =D

It's even better now as they have bottles made of 'plastic'.

I have yet to try Lingham's chili sauce. My fave is Maggi!!! I used to eat it on toast when I was a kid!!

I have to say that it's taken me a bit to get used to SE Asian hot sauces. I prefer Tobasco Green and Cholula, but both have quite a bit of vinegar and aren't what my wife is used to. Lately, though, I've taken a shine to ABC Sambal Lampung...

Mama, im sure now they have huge varieties. My friend bought some garlic chili sauce but somehow I still prefer the original. Cik abe pun suka yg original jugak. ;)

Zue, did you use maggi tomato sos?

Pak Idrus, yes mee goreng taste better with lingham chili sauce esp when there's telur mata kerbau on top!

Sri, samalah your hubby and mine. I used to bring a few bottles as well but I havent been back for so long. Im happy that I can now get it easily from Ranch 99.

Wiffy, it is Malaysian made. Im sure they have it in Spore and the only overseas that you need to go to is JB! lol.

Somuffins, for real? They have them in plastic bottles now? That is so cool!

Maya, chili sauce on a toast? That is weird! lol. Do you still eat it that way? Do get a bottle of lingham chili sauce the next time you go to the asian store.

David, yes our chili sauce is not like hot sauce here. Have you tried dipping your fish keropok with chili sauce? Iv never heard or seen sambal lampung. What does it taste like?

I think I have about 10 different chilli sauces in my fridge and Lingam is one of my favourites. Mr G adds a few splashes of the chilli sauce to Oyster sauce and marinades his steaks for BBQ....yum!

Woohoo! I'm glad you finally found it, Farina. The distributors must have decided that CA is a better market than WA as the stores here are out of stock! I have to get to 99R before they run out too. :(

Omigosh this is like my most favourite chilli sauce EVAH! Fortunately, they do sell Lingham's here in Tesco - but mahal lah. I introduced Lingham's to my former flatmate (a Zimbabwean who's also a British citizen), and he ended up finishing the whole bottle. Ha ha I got him hooked! Can't deny the fact - Lingham's FTW!

Salt N Turmeric said...

3yrshousewife, ada 3kg big bottle ke? Ingatkan maggi aje yg ada camtu. lol.

Munira, memang mahal sikitlah tapi na makan punya hal, close 1 eye ajelah. When i couldnt find them at the store, id be very stingy with my supply. lol.

Same as you, I used to eat everything with chili sauce too even fried rice. My friends tease me and say I eat wanton soup noodles only because of chili sauce and I order fried potato chips only because of ketchup. They can hardly see chips coz fully covered by ketchup. Will ask my friend in Malaysia to get me Lingham Chili Sauce when she comes for vacation

Indonesia Eats said...

Same here, eat KFC with chili sauce just like I ate KFC in Indonesia, the difference I have to bring my own chili sauce :D

My husband and I are both big fans of Lingham's! We always make sure that our pantry has stocks of it :D
Besides using it as a dip, I like to blend it with other aromatics eg, lemon grass, garlic and marinade prawns which later can be grilled or stir fry. yum!

wowee... so many lingham's fans here. it's the only sauce i've known ever since i was born (for ketchup only del monte but i dont see del monte at the supermarkets anymore these days).

my mom's signature raya dish is makaroni bakar, kena makan ngan lingham chili sauce je, kalau makan pakai chili sauce brand lain tak cukup umph.

i always try to convert my friends into using lingham's. haha.
